All of us 3rd Class cadets cherished Hieu because he was very virtuous and competent (he ranked second at the graduation).

He attained the rank of General based uniquely on his abilities and efforts, and not because of partisanship or clique. Maybe his virtue and competency were the causes of his mysterious death.

After our graduation, I only had the opportunity to see him again when he came to Danang to hold the position of I Corps Chief of Staff, while I was the 2nd Division Chief of Staff. During that time, we frequently met, and he was as jovial as in the old days.
